Great shots, it's difficult to find a Flicker sitting still long enough to take a photo. The trees were full of them when I home in Newfoundland visiting last summer but photo ops evaded me. Maybe the next time...
Thank you, Elaine. I was shooting from quite a distance - you know, timing, etc - I was happy to get a few shots, albeit they're not perfect. I practicing with new equipment, so it is fun.
This is a blog dedicated to my discoveries and observations at the Bird Feeding Stations in my front yard and other fun experiences that I have in nature and photography.
I was born and raised on the east coast of Canada. I was a "stay-at-home" mom for 30 years with 6 wonderful children. I live each day with the incredible joy of knowing that God has created all things and He has packed every living thing with amazing potential, and I have just begun the journey to find out what my own potential is!

I'll trade you 50 sparrows for the Flicker.
Flowers in Washington in January? Lucky you but then you are on the warm side of the sound.
Wow,that is amazing. These birds are so good looking.
Blessings,Ruth
Lol, yes Richard, flowers in January. Someone was mowing their lawn yesterday - Lots and lots of rain...
Ruth, I was so intrigued by the color matches of the plummage and the leaves on the ground!
What a perfect place for him to forage... he's almost hidden completely!!
I know, Jayne! If I hadn't seen the rust color under his wings (out of the corner of my eye) as he flew in, I probably wouldn't have seen him at all!
I love Northern Flickers! Good shots!
